Interactive Intelligent Systems Research Group

Department of Artificial Intelligence and Human Interfaces (AIHI)
University of Salzburg

I am Head of the Interactive Intelligent Systems Research Group. Founded in 2023, it is a young and dynamic research group. This group is part of Excellence in Digital Sciences and Interdisciplinary Technologies (EXDIGIT) within the Faculty of Digital and Analytical Sciences at the University of Salzburg, Austria. The group is affiliated with the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Human Interfaces (AIHI).

In our research group, we investigate the full spectrum of recommender systems and human-AI interaction: from (i) investigating humans’ needs of how such systems function to (ii) measuring the implications of these systems. This also includes (iii) evaluating their algorithmic performance, analyzing biases, or studying trust issues, and (iv) improving algorithmic approaches to better align with those needs.

InterMediation. Music—Effect—Analysis

Wissenschaft & Kunst
Mozarteum University Salzburg &
University of Salzburg

I am a Co-Lead of the focus area InterMediation. Music—Effect—Analysis at Wissenschaft & Kunst. Wissenschaft & Kunst is an inter-university organization, founded as a cooperation between the University of Salzburg and the Mozarteum University Salzburg. Together with Martin Losert, I am leading a team of eight researchers across both universities.

The focus area InterMediation deals with the mediation and impact of music and related arts. All InterMediation projects are characterized by the following fields, which are expressed and linked in different ways:

  • The field of Music – Arts – Culture refers to art and culture or artistic and cultural forms of expression.
  • The field of Interaction – Intermediation – Impact relates to anthropological aspects, i.e. possible social, individual, or historical attributions of meaning to art and culture or – in more general terms – the connection between people and culture.
  • The field of Data – Mathematics – Technology examines the available information in the context of scientific and artistic projects, as well as the question how this information can be interpreted.
